La Stampa says a Champions League exit would seal the fate of Real's coach, whose side sit 16 points behind leaders Barcelona in LaLiga.

Speculation has begun to grow over the future of Zinedine Zidane as head coach of Real Madrid, whose poor results in LaLiga this season have left them fourth in the table - 16 points adrift of leaders Barcelona.

Champions League defeat would seal Zidane's fate

Indeed, the Italian newspaper La Stampa is in no doubt that a Champions League exit would this summer signal the end of Zidane's tenure in the Real dugout.

Germany coach linked with job if Zidane goes

What's more, several reports in Germany have identified the country's World Cup-winning national coach, Joachim Löw, as the frontrunner to replace Zidane should the Frenchman, who this week confirmed that he has extended his contract at the Bernabéu until 2020, be fired by Los Blancos.

It is believed that there was contact between Löw and Real president Florentino Pérez before Zidane's appointment in 2016, with talks proving unsuccessful due to the Germany boss's desire not to leave his post until after the 2018 World Cup.

Now, however, it is thought that a deal to see the 57-year-old take over at the LaLiga giants at the end of the season could suit both parties.
