Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has recalled the Ayew brothers for A 2019 Afcon qualifier against Etiopia.

Andre and Jordan Ayew are due to end a year’s absence from the Ghana squad after the Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, named the duo in an upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Ethiopia on 18 November.

The Ayew brothers, sons of Ghana’s legendary attacking midfielder Abedi Pele, last played for the Black Stars in a World Cup qualifier 1-1 draw against Congo in October 2017.

This season, Andre has scored twice in 13 appearances for Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce, while Jordan has made a total of nine appearances in all competitions for the English Premier League side Crystal Palace and is still due to score.

Appiah had put the brothers on ice after they withdrew from the squad to face Congo in the return leg of the World Cup qualifier.

Asamoah Gyan also called-up

Captain Asamoah Gyan, who also hasn’t played since the Draw against Congo, has also been named in the squad by Appiah, despite playing just 49 minutes of action with Kayersipor in the Super Lig this season.

Perhaps the biggest omission for the game against Ethiopia is the AC Milan defender Nicholas Opoku.

At the 2019 Afcon qualifiers’ Group F, Ghana - with three points - find themselves in third place behind Kenya (7 points) and Ethiopia (4 points), but with two games less.

Sierra Leone occupies the fourth place with three points; however, since the country is serving a Fifa ban from football, the qualifying picture in Group F remains unclear.
